INTERNATIONAL DRAMA COLONY IN GROŽNJAN, CROATIA 2023

This year, the International Drama Colony takes place from July 2 to 9 in the organization of the Croatian Center ITI and in cooperation with the Estonian organization Estonian Theater Agency and the Estonian Center ITI and the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb.

The Estonian partners have chosen the drama with which they would like to present themselves to the Croatian theater audience. The play Lion by the playwright Martin Algus. The play Lion was created first for the needs of radio drama, and then the author specially refined it for the International Drama Colony in Grožnjan.

The lion will be presented through a public staged reading this Saturday, July 8, at 7 p.m. in front of the Castle in Grožnjan. The stage reading is directed by theater director Lovro Krsnik, and the performance is performed by actress Zdenka Šustić and actors Tomislav Krstanović, Leon Dubroja and Roko Ševerdija.

In addition to the playwright and the mentioned Croatian drama artists, the ITI Croatian Center also hosted colleagues from the Estonian partner organization to the residency in order to get to know the process of working on this residency drama project and to arrange reciprocal cooperation and the presentation of Croatian playwrights in Estonia.

The international drama colony “From text to play” has been held continuously since 1999, organized by the Croatian ITI Center. This seven-day residential program was launched with the aim of verifying and promoting foreign and domestic texts in the form of staged readings that have ambient features because the performances take place in the colorful exteriors of Grožnjan.
