The oldest university institution in Croatia focusing on drama teaching and encompasses in its departments (theatre, film, dance) almost all the aspects of theatrical, performance, film and media art. Established in 1950, since 1979 it is part of the University of Zagreb, bearing its current name since 1985. Since 1952, the Academy of Dramatic Art (ADU) has operated in the building of the community centre of the Croatian Singing Society Kolo, built in 1884. The building also includes a hall with approximately a hundred seats, where, in addition to regular exam performances by ADU students, their public performances occasionally take place, as well as the RE:ADU exam productions festival and the KRADU biennial festival. The ADU hall has served on several occasions as a public stage for professional theatrical performances (e.g. Zagreb Theatre Studio, 1964-1965) and as an auxilliary stage of the Croatian National Theatre (Chambre Stage, 1957-1963; HNK Small Stage, 1965-1967). Since 2015, the ADU also has a permanent stage on Frankopanska Street (F22 Stage).
